What is OCUVIR?

  • OCUVIR contains Acyclovir which belongs to antiviral agents

  • It works by killing or stopping the growth of viruses

What OCUVIR is used for?

  • It is used to treat eye infections caused by the Herpes simplex virus

Talk to your doctor before using this medicine, if you:

  • are allergic to Acyclovir or any of the other ingredients of OCUVIR
  • wear contact lenses
  • Ask your doctor for advice before using this medicine if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant or are breast feeding
  • OCUVIR can be used in children and adolescents as recommended by doctor
  • Your vision may be blurred for 5 to 10 minutes after applying OCUVIR. Wait until you can see clearly again before driving or using any tools or machines
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines which includes medicines obtained without prescription, eye ointment or drops and herbal medicines
  • Always use OCUVIR exactly as your doctor has told you

Adults and children

  • The usual dose is 1cm (about ½ an inch) of OCUVIR applied to the infected eye five times a day
  • You should space each application of OCUVIR by four hours
  • You should carry on using OCUVIR for at least 3 days after your eye has got better
  • OCUVIR is for use in the eye, if you swallow any talk to your doctor immediate

How to apply OCUVIR

  • Use your finger to gently pull down the lower eyelid of your infected eye
  • Tilt your head slightly backwards and look up
  • Apply 1cm (about ½ an inch) of OCUVIR to the inside of your lower eyelid
  • Try to avoid the tip of the tube touching any part of your eye
  • Close your eye for 30 seconds
  • Wash your hands after applying OCUVIR

If you use more OCUVIR

  • Talk to your doctor if you use too much OCUVIR

If you forget to use OCUVIR

  • If you forget to use OCUVIR, use it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose
  • Do not use a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose

If you stop using OCUVIR

  • Do not stop using this medicine without consulting your doctor

Allergic reactions such as,

  • rash, itching or hives on your skin
  • swelling of your face, lips, tongue or other parts of your body
  • shortness of breath, wheezing or trouble in breathing
  • unexplained fever (high temperature) and feeling faint, especially when standing up
  • mild stinging in your eye after using OCUVIR
  • swollen, runny eyes (conjunctivitis)
  • irritation or feeling as if there is something in your eye

  • Keep this medicine out of reach of children
  • Store at room temperature (15-25°C)
  • Keep the tube tightly closed when you are not using OCUVIR
  • Do not use OCUVIR if more than one month has passed since you first opened the tube
  • Do not use OCUVIR after the expiry date
